You have a choice of , Authentic, Original Northwest Sourdough Starter, with it's delicious flavor and all around usage, Alaskan Sourdough Starter, with it's super fast rise time of only 3.5 hours to peak, mild flavor which is great for camp cooking, like waffles, pancakes, and biscuits or the wonderful Australian Sourdough Starter, with it's old world flavor best suited to whole grains, rye, and whole wheat breads. Through the efforts of Randy Prewitt, news anchor, Northwest Sourdough Starter and the Web Site www.northwestsourdough.com were featured on Channel 8 KNOE / CBS affiliate by Dianne Cage during the April 25th 2006, "What's Cooking" segment.(Thankyou Randy Prewitt, Dianne Cage and KNOE channel 8 !)
These sourdough starters are available from Northwest Sourdough.
The Original Northwest Sourdough Starter was cultured in the Pacific Northwest where the humid conditions are very favorable for sourdough yeasts. This sourdough yeast produces terrific,
fragrant, sour, holey sourdough bread every time! Utilizing the directions in the book "Breads from the La Brea Bakery" by Nancy Silverton, I was lucky enough to catch a very vigorous, tangy, robustly flavored sourdough culture. Most of the comments I receive are about the wonderful flavor. This starter has been so popular that is was featured on T.V. during the "What's Cooking" segment on K.N.O.E. Channel 8 in the South.
This Sourdough starter is a great all around starter and will produce the "Sour" San Francisco Style Breads:
A Special Recipe, Lace Bread:
This starter can be used for Whole grains and Rye sourdough breads and interchangeably with any of the recipes. Many pictures of the breads made with this starter are available on the website gallery at http://www.northwestsourdough.com
Australian Sourdough Starter
The Australian Sourdough starter excels with whole grains, whole wheat and rye breads. It has a delicious "Old World" flavor that is mild for wholegrains which have a tendency to get too sour. It was cultured in Australia by "Aussie Bill" and when you purchase this starter you will be sent "Aussie Bill's" own recipe for Australian Sourdough bread:
Some of the above breads are Rye and Flaxseed Wholegrain.
Alaskan Sourdough Starter
The Alaskan Sourdough Starter is the fastest of the starters and therefore good for quick breads. You need the longer proofing starters to ferment and make the "sour" breads with the large holes. You need the Alaskan Sourdough starter for the tasty camp cooking like waffles, biscuits, flapjacks (pancakes) and it also makes the "Shepherders Bread".
